Classic Solid Fuel Stoves

Multifuel Stoves

Multifuel stoves can burn coal and smokeless fuel as well as wood. Coal, Coke or smokeless fuel burns best on a raised, perforated grate which allows air to reach the underside of the fuel. The stoves often have a riddling mechanism to shake the ash into a removable ashpan. Coal comes in small lumps which can fed into the burning area from either the top or the front.

When burning wood the airflow through the grate can be too much for maximum efficiency - if you are intending to burn only wood then dedicated stoves are available but many multifuel stoves can also run with the grate removed to maximise the heat output.
